Through projects and research developed with our members and national partners, CSO supports, enhances, and promotes the work of the coastal states and territories by investigating and applying new and emerging scientific and social science knowledge to inform coastal decision-making.

CSO staff provide project support to coastal programs and national partners by:



Providing expert scientific and policy technical assistance

Developing and disseminating resources, such as reports, tools, trainings, and webinars

Connecting states and communities with national partners and resources

Managing grants and contracts

Serving in an advisory capacity to guide project work

Coordinating project teams

Facilitating convenings and partnerships to advance coastal programs’ efforts

CSO works with coastal states and territories to manage regional and national projects:

Sediment Placement Regulations of U.S. Coastal States and Territories

Atlantic Flyway Shorebird Project

We also support projects that center on environmental justice through our partnerships with the National Wildlife Federation and Digital Coast.
